Brown
Bag Players, a professional adult actors' outreach
program, is a division of Children's Theatre Workshop
founded in 1994 to present audience participatory plays, performed
by professional actors to children of Orange County. Brown
Bag Player's award-winning performances are not only targeted
to enrich the young mind, but they also offer children the opportunity
to meet the actors and experience live theatre in a hands-on, participatory
environment.
And that translates
into a fun and enjoyable time for all! As one satisfied parent
said
after a recent show: ""Your shows are GREAT! My daughter
and I love going to see them." And a satisfied father proclaimed: "I
took my daughter to this past weekend's performance and thought
it was WONDERFUL! Thank you so much."
The children bring their lunch to the show, which they enjoy while
the actors are putting on their makeup in front of the audience.
The actors offer face painting for the kids, and talk with them
about the play, show them the scenery and lighting and answer any
questions that the kids have.
Throughout the show,
the actors ask for volunteers from the audience to help with the
story. For example, the King may ask for help cleaning the castle.
He'll then select a few kids from the audience who come up on stage
and "clean" the castle. After the show, the kids can meet the actors,
get autographs, and have their pictures taken. With
our shows, kids have the opportunity to interact with the actors,
before, during, and after the play, which gives them a deeper understanding
and appreciation of theatre in general.
